Existentialism in My Eyes Essay Example
Existentialism in My Eyes Essay Example Existentialism in My Eyes Essay Existentialism in My Eyes Essay To get down with I would wish to briefly what the dictionary defines as existential philosophy. A philosophical theory or attack that emphasizes the being of the single individual as a free and responsible agent finding their ain development through Acts of the Apostless of the will ( merriam-webster ) . It is a a 20thcentury philosophical motion that places the chief accent on the being of worlds. Existentialism calls attending to freedom of action and freedom of pick. Harmonizing to this theory one is ever free to move in any manner he or she volitions and should non see others actions. ideas or positions in making so. Since every individual in considered to purchase into the universe entirely and thena addition die alone they are non expected to be gracious or considerate to the people around them. Esentially we are all responsible for our ain being. However existential philosophy is so obscure in its definition because it is viewed so otherwise by so many people. Not merely bookmans but those who study the term every bit good. The fathers of existential philosophy are said to be ; Soren Kierkegaard and Friedrich Nietzsche. although the phenomenological version of it begins in Heidegger. who vehemently denied being an existential philosopher. Sartre. and continues through Kafka and Camus. Since most existentialist minds neer used that word to depict their doctrines. Sartre did. but supposedly rejected the term on his deathbed. you will happen some differences between them However existential philosophy and those who live it tend to hold certain features harmonizing to most bookmans: à ¦they are obsessed with how to populate oneââ¬â¢s life and believe that philosophical and psychological enquiry can assist. à ¦they believe there are certain inquiries that everyone must cover with ( if they are to take human life earnestly ) . and that these are particular - experiential - inquiries. Questions such as decease. the significance of human being. the topographic point of God in human being. the significance of value. interpersonal relationship. the topographic point of self-reflective witting cognition of oneââ¬â¢s ego in bing. Note that the existential philosophers on this word picture donââ¬â¢t pay much attending to social inquiries such as the political relations of life and what social duty the society or province has. They focus about entirely on the person. à ¦By and big Existentialists believe that life is really hard and that it doesnââ¬â¢t have an objective or universally known value. but that the single must make value by affiriming it and populating it. non by speaking about it. à ¦Existential picks and values are chiefly demonstrated in ACT non in words. à ¦Given that one is concentrating on single being and the existential struggles ( that is. in doing determinations that are meaningful in mundane life ) . they frequently find that literary word pictures instead than more abstract philosophical thought. are the best ways to clarify experiential battles. à ¦They tend to take freedom of the will. the human power to make or non make. as perfectly obvious. Now and once more there are statements for free will in Existentialist literature. but even in these statements. one gets the distinguishable sense that the statements are non for themselves. but for outsiders. Inside the motion. free will is self-evident. it is intuitively obvious. it is the background of all else that goes on. There are surely exclusions to each of these things. but this is kind of a placing of the existentialist-like places. ( Corbett. 1985 ) . Existenitialism focuses on several rules. nevertheless there are three major 1s ; Subjectivity. Anguish. and Forlornness. Subjectivity is the first rule of Existentialism. Subjectivity means the name we are given when charges are brought up against us. This thought that we are born with a program in head. It is what we will do for ourselves for our hereafter. You neer know where your life is traveling to take you. Angusish is the feeling that Satre made mention to when we realize that we are wholly reponsible for non merely our ain being but all of world. When we speak of forlornnessââ¬â¢ . a term Heidegger seemed to utilize frequently. we mean merely that God does non be and that we. ust face the consquence of that world. that God is non responsible for our being but we are The feeling of forlornness roots from an individualââ¬â¢s realisation that people are entirely in the universe. unable to trust on anything perfectly or anyone. Though these three are the major rules I I personally value the thought of genuineness that existential philosophy seems to concentrate on. It fits absolutely in modern society It allows the thought that being true to oneââ¬â¢s character. personality. and picks is required to be reliable Modern twenty-four hours society has created cooky cutter frontages that has us all boxed into functions and categorizations. Which is why most modern twenty-four hours philosophers tend to see traditional and academic political orientations as excessively abstract or remote for current society. I sometimes think itââ¬â¢s non the theories that are distant but the uppitiness of the tusk tower in its presentation that makes them look excessively hard to get the hang. However to me itââ¬â¢s like the 2+2 theory. that the beginnings of philosophical idea must stem from human experience. Another reply is that the authentic attitude is really simple. It strips off the complications of people stating you how to populate and what to make and who you should be. Itââ¬â¢s appealing to those surrounded or overwhelmed by the blare of voices in todayââ¬â¢s society. particularly to immature people. It is the look of freedom in a universe of restraints. Again. Sartre might hold rejected some of this as being non what he meant by genuineness. But truly the point is that these attitudes are popular. I think I should travel back to the beginning once more. What does genuineness intend? Possibly. for the reliable individual. oneââ¬â¢s moral visual aspect is at all times in all topographic points and in all respects oneââ¬â¢s moral world. The reliable individual lives harmonizing to her ain moral criterions. does non feign to be something she is non. does non make the apppearance of morality but in their bosom be in private debauched. This. to me. is the most appealing definition of genuineness. When it comes to specifying truth. Existentialism has twosome of points. To get down with. truth is defined by a individual single life experiences. Their world and experiences influences their ultimate position on the universe. It is considered that to see of the universe is already the truth and in their world it is. This is because in Existentialism truth is something that is based on facts and non on emotions. Though. the truth can be used in a good manner or bad manner. so to state moving in good or bad religion. Therefore. in the construct of truth it is one time once more pointed out that every person has a freedom of pick. It is interesting that Existentialism considers an act to be good and something to be true if it is performed in a manner that the full human race would be represented. This seems to be adequate to certify an act as a moral one. Modern existential philosophy seems to demo up frequently in movies. One must non confound Existentialism and Post Modernism though. Key thoughts include 1. Retaining genuineness in a mechanical. apathetic universe is dejected. because autencitiy relates to a world that merely does non be. 2. The feelings of disaffection and solitariness that come about from being alone in a universe of many. and the consiciousness of decease. 3. Everydayness Referemces 1. Corbett B. . 1985. Group Goals, Communication, Decision Making, Controversy and Essay
Group Goals, Communication, Decision Making, Controversy and Creativity - Essay Example Background on Assessment of Group Goals From the previous diagnosis, it was found that as the groupââ¬â¢s leader governing the participation of the advisory board composed of eight executive directors at the affiliated dental schools, the group goals were deemed to be weak in the areas of clarity, operability, relevance, and interdependence and commitment of group members. Despite being deemed to be understood by all members, the goals were not explicitly and formally written; were universal and generalized in nature; defined in abstract terms; with members exhibiting high cohesiveness but low in performance. In this regard, the recommendations are hereby detailed according to the set categories: Goals In the next general meeting to be scheduled this July 2011, as the groupââ¬â¢s leader, I would prioritize in the agenda the need to explicitly state and formally write the goals of the group with identified time frames. As previously noted, the group goals which were assumed to b e clearly and explicitly understood are: student growth, integrity, student training for entry-level jobs in the dental field, financial strength (profit), compliance with state and federal regulations, and student outcomes (graduation and employment for our students). These generally stated abstractly defined goals should be stated as follows: Student Growth: we should envision increasing the number of students by 20% for the next school year, 2011 ââ¬â 2012. Financial Strength: dental schools should aim to generate at least 35% net profits by the end of the fiscal year, 2011. Integrity: Members and associates are expected to adhere and conform to ethical standards, moral principles, uprightness, honesty and sincerity at all times. Student Training: Upon entry-level, students are encouraged to undergo specifically designed training programs to increase competency and qualifications in their fields of endeavor. Compliance with Regulations: Members and associates are expected to adhere and conform to state and federal regulations in the governance of the affiliated dental schools. Student Outcomes: Members and associates would seek affiliations with private and public institutions for possible employment of graduates from respective dental schools and target to assist more than 50% of graduates for future careers by 2012. Communication An open communication is always encouraged among group members to ensure that issues and concerns are immediately brought to light and could be discussed and resolved in the next scheduled meeting. While the ultimate goal of communication is to share meanings, it is also to share them in order to arrive at the outcome for which communication is intended. Communication is intended to elicit action towards the achievement of certain goals. The sender must clarify the goals if action is to be possible at all. According to Carnes (2010), ââ¬Å"for a group to achieve a goal, three things have to happen. Goals must be formulated e ffectively according to sound goal-setting principles. Goals must be effectively communicated to every team member. Finally, team members must feel that they "own" these goalsâ⬠(par. 1). Papa (2011) validated the importance of clearly setting goals in the

Monopoly Market Model Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Monopoly Market Model - Research Paper Example However, the legal regulation of monopolies can create conflict with innovation and intellectual property protection and Jones and Sufrin highlight the changes in the telecommunications sector and the multimedia market as a prime example of this and they comment that this market comprises part of a ââ¬Å"new economyâ⬠, which: ââ¬Å"Now encompasses high technology industries.... However, the inherent nature of these new market spaces is the rapid pace of technological change, the creation and exploitation of intellectual property rights, the need for complementary products to work together, and a high degree of technical complexityâ⬠(Jones and Sufrin 55). This conflict between innovation and the regulation on market monopolies is evident by the high profile litigation involving Microsoft, which has been in troubled in the US under the Sherman Act. Additionally, Microsoft was found to be in breach of antitrust laws and subjected to the highest fine imposed by the EU competition regulatory authorities for abuse of dominant position. The background to the EU case against Microsoft was triggered by an initial complaint by Novell in 1993 in respect of Microsoftââ¬â¢s licensing requirements. Novell argued that Microsoftââ¬â¢s licensing practices regarding tying and bundling were anti-competitive in preventing competitor access to the market. Furthermore, Novell argued that the licensing practices and royalty requirements resulted in a royalty payment for every computer that was sold by a Microsoft operating system supplier, irrespective of whether the computer included the Windows operating system. Microsoft negotiated a settlement in 1994, which led to a change in some licensing practices. However, in 1998 the spotlight was back on Microsoft again as Sun Microsystems complained about Microsoftââ¬â¢s restricted disclosure in respect of the Windows NT interfaces. This triggered

Muslims are Bearing Most of the Historic Burden of European Racism Term Paper
Muslims are Bearing Most of the Historic Burden of European Racism - Term Paper Example Being the continent that experiences the highest inward migration, Europe should be least concerned by prejudicial perspectives towards immigrants. For example, in the case of Britain, many of the immigrant groups come from their former colonies, including the Caribbean, India, and Pakistan; lately, there are labor migrants coming in from Poland. In the case of Germany, many foreigners are those from Turkey, after they went there as temporary labor migrants. These examples demonstrate that the perception of foreigners as outsiders do not ordinarily depend on their origin, country of birth or citizenship. Additionally, foreigners belonging to non-Christian backgrounds are quickly considered outsiders, due to the overwhelmingly Christian orientation of Europe. For example, France has the highest ratios of Muslims, making about 10 percent. In the Netherlands and Germany, Muslims comprise about 7 and 6 percent of the general population.à In 2008, the European Commission created a special account of the discrimination experienced in Europe, using the measured survey branded, ââ¬Å"Eurobarometerââ¬â¢. It was meant to establish the number of people that view themselves as members of minority groups. The report, also, explored the prevalence of the experiences of discrimination among the groups considered foreign or outsiders. The figures reporting the contact of individuals with outside groups, from the Eurobarometer show that 61 percent of Europeans reported having acquaintances from other religious groups or the people from other ethnic origins.

Indias Tata Steel Company Analysis
Indias Tata Steel Company Analysis By acquiring Anglo-Dutch steel firm Corus, Indias Tata Steel is now one of the worlds top five steel makers. Professor Tarun Khanna says the fact that the deal is the largest out of India and generated by the private sector makes this a notable event. But now comes the hard part-making the merger work. Can Tata avoid mistakes made by Chinese companies? Key concepts include: * Tatas acquisition of Corus is notable not only for creating a new steel giant, but also because this deal was a private sector venture far from Indian government influence. * Tata should be able to make the merger work by virtue of its position of financial strength as well as previous cross-border experiences. The West should not underestimate this heretofore relatively unknown competitor. Contents INTRODUCTION TATA STEEL C0MPANY:- Tata Iron Steel Company Ltd. (TISCO) is the iron and steel production company associated with the Tata group of some 80 different industrial and other business enterprises in India, founded by members of the Tata family. TISCO operates as Indias largest integrated steel works in the private sector with a market share of nearly 13 present and is the second largest steel company in the entire industry. Its products and services include hot and cold rolled coils and sheets, tubes, construction bars, forging quality steel, rods, structural, strips and bearings, steel plant and material handling equipment, Ferro alloys and other minerals, software for process controls, and cargo handling services. Through its subsidiaries, TISCO also offers tinplate, wires, rolls, refractories, and project management services. Tata Steel was established by Indian Paris businessman Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata in 1907 (he died in 1904, before the project was completed). CORUS STEEL COMPANY:- Corus Group was created in October 1999 through the merger of British Steel and Koninklijke Hoogovens, and consists of mills and service canters, that produce and distribute steel products to customers worldwide. Corus service Centres, part of Corus Group with sales of over $2 billion, process and distribute products such as coil, sheet, structural sections, bar, tube, and plate products. They provide a variety of processing services such as slitting, levelling, shearing, sawing, and a range of multi-step plate processes. 1 LITERATURE REVIEW CHANGE MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP: CHANGE MANAGEMENT: It is a organized approach to trade with change, both from view of an organization and on in the individual level. This of change management assignment relates to transformation theory. As in an organization changes transform by the leader Mr.RattanTata (CEO) for the reputation and profitability of an organization. CHANGE MODEL: The three stages of change that are still the basis of many approaches today. Unfreeze:- The term change ready is often used to describe people who are unfrozen and ready to take the next step. Some people come ready for change whilst others take a long time to let go of their comfortable current realities. Changing:- may be hard for the individual, often the hardest part is to start. Even when a person is unfrozen and ready for change, that first step can be very scary. Transition can also be a pleasant trap and, as Robert Louis Stephenson said, It is better to travel hopefully than arrive. People become comfortable in temporary situations where they are not accountable for the hazards of normal work and where talking about change may be substituted for real action. Refreeze At the other end of the journey, the final goal is to refreeze, putting down roots again and establishing the new place of stability. In practice, refreezing may be a slow process as changing seldom stop cleanly, but go more in fits and starts with a long tail of bits and pieces. There are good and bad things about this. 2 LEADERSHIP: It is the influencing process of leadership and followers to achieve organisational objectives through change. For achievement and growth of the company, Mr.Rattan Tata change the leadership with employees. STYLE OF LEADERSHIP: Transformational leadership in terms of how the leader affects followers, who are intended to trust, admire and respect the transformational leader. He identified three ways in which leaders transform followers: Increasing their awareness of task importance and value. Getting them to focus first on team or organizational goals, rather than their own interests. Activating their higher-order needs. 3 OBJECTIVES OF CHANGE The main objective of Merger Acquisition transaction is as follows: Proper utilization of all available resources. To prevent exploitation of unutilized and underutilized assets and resources. Forming a strong human base. Reducing tax burden. Improving profits. Eliminating or limiting the competition. Achieving savings in monitoring cost. REASIONS FOR MERGING FOR CORUS:- Total Debt Of Corus Is 1.6 Ban Gap. Corus Needs Supply Of Raw Material At Lower Cost. Though Corus Has Revenue Of $ 18.06 Ban Its Profit Was Just Of $626 MN. Corus Facilities Were Relatively Old With High Cost Of Production. Employee Cost Is 15% While That of Tata Steel Is 9%. Tata had a strong retail and distribution network in India and SE Asia. This would give the European manufacturer an in-road into the emerging Asian markets. FOR TATA:- Tata Was Looking To Manufacture Finished Products In Mature Markets Of Europe. A Diversified Product Mix Will Reduce Risks While Higher End Products will add to bottom line. Corus Holds A Number Of Patents And RD Facility. Tata Is Known For Efficient Handling For Labour And It Aims At Reducing Employee Cost and Improve Productivity. It Will Move From 55th Position In World To 5th In Production Of Steel Globally. Tata was a major supplier to the Indian auto industry and the demand for value added steel products was growing in this market. Hence there would be a powerful combination of high quality developed and low cost high growth market 4 CHANGES:- Corus legal identity was changed last November to Tata Steel Europe. Kirby Adams, MD and CEO of Tata Steel Europe. With the transition to Tata Steel name our customers have the reassurance that the technical ex annual revenue and work force of 50,000 employees Valuing the Acquisition. Method used Enterprise Value Multiple. (EV represents a companys economic value the minimum amount someone would have to pay to buy it outright) Precise and capability earned over a long and successful period will be enhanced by aligning a world-class product with a global leader in steel production. IMPLEMENTATION OF CHANGE MODEL: Market has not responded well to this deal as the price of the stocks fell. Investors are worried about cash outflow and the resultant strain on companys balance sheet. Of the total cash to be paid in the deal $4.1 billion will be forked by Tata steel, rest of the money will be as debts and will be returned from Corus cash flows. No merger is riddle free and almost every has a bit of it. Tata steel needs to concentrate on bringing down the production cost, which is high now. They need to use the best of their management skills. Rattan Tatas dexterity has worked out for the benefit of the group and this time will be no exception. The shareholders need to keep their faith intact in the group and this will pay as it has before. 5 AFTER MERGER: THE GLOBAL STEEL INDUSTRY:- The current global steel industry is in its best position in comparing to last decades. The price has been rising continuously. The demand expectations for steel products are rapidly growing for coming years. The shares of steel industries are also in a high pace. The steel industry is enjoying its 6th consecutive years of growth in supply and demand. And there is many more merger and acquisitions which overall buoyed the industry and showed some good results. The subprime crisis has led to the recession in economy of different Countries, which may lead to have a negative effect on whole steel industry in coming years. However steel production and consumption will be supported by continuous economic growth. 6 CONTRIBUTION OF COUNTRIES TO GLOBAL STEEL INDUSTRY The countries like China, Japan, India and South Korea are in the top of the above in steel production in Asian countries. China accounts for one third of total production i.e. 419m ton, Japan accounts for 9% i.e. 118m ton, India accounts for 53m ton and South Korea is accounted for 49m ton, which all totally becomes more than 50% of global production. Apart from this USA, BRAZIL, UK accounts for the major chunk of the whole growth. The steel industry has been witnessing robust growth in both domestic as well as international markets. In this article, let us have a look at how has the steel industry performed globally in 2007. 7 CAPACITY:- The global crude steel production capacity has grown by around 7% to 1.6 ban in2007 from 1.5 ban tonnes in 2006. The capacity has shown a growth rate of 7% CAGR since 2003. The additions to capacity over last few years have ranged from 36 m tonnes in 2004 to 108 m tonnes in 2007. Asian region accounts for more than 60% of the total production capacity of world, backed mainly by capacity in China, Japan, India, Russia and South Korea. These nations are among the top steel producers in the 8 AFTER MERGER: BENEFITS:- Corus well known strength is the production of high-end steel-used in construction automobile and aircraft as well as its impressive research and development will complement Tata Steel. The merger will also give it access to the important markets of Europe. All that will benefit Corus is the management expertise of the Tatas and their cost advantage in producing steel. With their acumen they will bring down the production cost of Corus. Tata Steel expects to earn $300 million per year through cost savings. Market has not responded well to this deal as the price of the stocks fell. 9 CHANGE AGENT: I believe this will be the first step in showing that Indian industry can in fact step outside the shores of India in an international marketplace and acquit itself as a global player. RATAN TATA RESISTANCE: Takeover defences include all actions by managers to resist having their firms acquired. Attempts by target managers to defeat outstanding takeover proposals are overt forms of takeover defences. Resistance also includes actions that occur before a takeover offer is made which make the firm more difficult to acquire. The intensity of the defences can range from mild to severe. Mild resistance forces bidders to restructure their offers, but not prevent an acquisition or raise the takeover price substantially. Severe resistance can block takeover bids, thereby giving the incumbent managers of the target firm veto power over acquisition proposals. A natural place to begin the analysis of takeover defences is with the wealth effects of takeovers. There is broad agreement that being a takeover target substantially Increases the wealth of shareholders. Historical estimates of the stock price increases of target firms are about 20% in the mergers and about 30% in tender offers. The large gain for target stockholders in takeovers seems to imply that all takeover resistance is bad. Resistance makes the firm more difficult to acquire. If the defence works, it lowers the probability of a takeover and stockholders are thus less likely to receive takeover premiums. Takeover resistance can benefit shareholders. Stockholders are concerned about the market value of the firm 10 CONCLUSION:- Conclusion With Corus in its fold, Tata Steel can confidently target becoming one of the top-3 steel makers globally by 2015. The company would have an aggregate capacity of close to 56 million tonnes per annum, if all the planned Greenfield capacities go on stream by then. We can conclude that if the acquisitions well planned, Executed and the necessary precautions taken for the deal a company can achieve its strategic objectives and thus ensure its growth through Acquisition. 11 REFRENCES 1 www.tatabolaji.com/opinionbymihirmishra 2 www.invera.com/new/corus/indexshtm 3 www.tatasteel.com>company 4 www.scrib.com/doc/mergeoftatasteelandcorus 5 www.barometer.edlman.comtrust/2009/ 6 www.sixsigmail9.com/article.cfm 7 Leading Change by John P. Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen Essay -- biographies bio
Wilhelm Conrad RÃâ"ntgen 1845 - 1923 Wilhelm Conrad RÃ
¡ntgen is a German physicist who was born on March 27, 1845 at Lennep in Germany. When he was three years old, his family moved to Apeldoorn in The Netherlands, where he attended a boarding school, the Institute of Martinus Herman van Doorn. While he was attending this school, he was very interested in making mechanical devices. This interest of his followed him through the rest of his life. RÃ
¡ntgen later entered a technical school at Utrecht. In 1872 in Apeldorn, RÃ
¡ntgen married Anna Bertha Ludwig of ZÃ
¸rich. They had no children, but in 1887 they adopted a daughter, Josephine Bertha Ludwig, who was the daughter of AnnaÃâ¢s only brother. RÃ
¡ntgen spent most of his years researching physics, thermology, mechanics, and electricity. Although he made some great discoveries in all these fields, his greatest invention was the discovery of a short-wave ray in 1895, which we know now as X-rays. Some other things he studied were the heats of gasses and fluids, the characteristics of quartz, the modification of the planes of polarized light by electromagnetic influences, the variations in the functions of temperature, the compressibility of water and other fluids, and the event of the spreading of oil drops on water. Throughout his life, RÃ
¡ntgen received many honors. Even though he was well known for his skills, he remained a modest man who never sought honors or money for his research and projects. For instance, he declined various titles and jobs, and donated money to his university that he received from the Nobel Prize. He also refused to take patents on his work, so that the whole world could benefit from his work. Aside from his modesty and generosity, he did accept honors and... ...ays. After RÃ
¡ntgen discovered X-rays, all fields of medicine were enhanced. Bones and other organs can be seen without surgery, jobs were enhanced, and germs and some types of cancers could be killed. This discovery has great importance to our lives, and has created amazing advances in a variety of fields. An example case that proves the new viewpoint and usage of these X-rays on the human body and medical sciences, was when a few days after Roentgen's initial public announcement of his discoveries, a doctor in America took X-ray photographs of a person with gunshot wounds in his hands. Before RÃ
¡ntgenÃâ¢s discovery, a surgeon would have to locate the shotgun pellets though exploratory surgery, to find and remove them. Now, with the technology of X-rays, an X-ray can be taken and the shotgun pellets would be found without the process of exploratory surgery.
